I led the art direction for Dark Data, a compilation of research, scholarship and creative practice in spring 2019 to fulfill the requirements for Surveillance Design: Dark Data, a course at Parsons School of Design.
The graphic identity has an element of nostalgia which is expressive of our pre-internet past. I was mostly inspired by the distinct graphics of old VHS covers.
The main typeface GT Super is inspired by titling serifs created for phototype technology - a method of printing type before it was rendered obsolete in the 1980s. Display serifs typefaces were commonly used in advertisements and book covers for their expressive and high-contrast qualities.
